What Taiwan finance teams should freeze before ESG assurance starts
A practical freeze list for controllers: metrics, boundaries, and narrative claims that should stop changing once the assurance firm arrives.
Once an assurance firm books fieldwork, every late change to a metric or footnote creates rework. Finance teams in Taipei often underestimate how many owners still update spreadsheets after the report draft is circulated.
Start with a freeze list: reporting boundary entities, Scope 1 and 2 totals, material Scope 3 categories, headcount definitions, and any governance statements that reference board committees. Assign a single owner who can approve exceptions.
Narrative claims deserve the same discipline. Phrases such as "all suppliers screened" or "net-zero aligned" must match the evidence binder. If the binder only covers Tier-1 vendors in Taiwan, the sentence must say so.
Share the freeze date with sustainability, HR, and procurement at least two weeks before the assurance kickoff. Innovatechs engagements treat this freeze as a milestone, not a suggestion.
